- Natural Selection is when organisms better adapted to their enviroment tend to survive and reproduce. Here I am using bunnies as an example.
- Selection
- First, the bunny population overpopulates. Every population produces more offspring, then can survive to maturity.
- Adaptation
- Through generations of breeding populations becokme more diverse. There is about the same number of grey bunnies to white bunnies.
- The Result
- Both bunnies were similar color and could blend into their environment well, but the greyer bunnies had longer legs allowing them to out run the other short leg bunnies and their predator the polar bear.
- Since the short-legged bunnies slowy die off the longer legged bunnies are the ones who reproduce.This allows the long-legged bunny gene to be passed down through generations.
- Eventually the whole population could have the long-legged trait because the short-legged bunnies are not able to survive and reproduce. This is how Natural Selection Occurs.
