- Lyons came around to ask Troy about the ten dollars again on his pay day. in the text it states "YOu cant change me pop im thirty four years old. if you wanted to change me you should have been there when i was growing up. i come by to see you...ask about ten dollars and you want to talk about how i was raised. you don't know about how i was raised (Wilson 23). Troy has a bad effect on Lyons because he wasn't here when he was a child so Lyons just come every pay day for 10 dollars. This is kind of a way Lyons uses his father for his absence.
- what are some key things they say?
- When Rose and Troy talks about their son Cory they always one specific topic they talk about, and the text says "I don't want him to be like me! I want him to move as far away from my life as he can get. You're the only decent thing that happened to me. I wish him that. But I don't wish a thing else from my life. I decided seventeen years ago that boy wasn't getting involved in no sports. Not after what they did to me in the sports."(Wilson 40). Troy thinks about how white people treated him when he was playing sports. so every time Rose or Cory brings it up he always blames it on the white people and how they would treat him because of his skin .
- what actions do they take.
- After Troy was done talking to Bono, COry walked in saying "papa done went up to the school and told Coach Zellman i cant play football no more. Wouldn't even let me play the game. Told the recruiter not to come"(Wilson 55). Troy goes over the top when he told Cory's coach not to play him, but Troy's reason was because ACory had lied to him about working at the AP. I think there could have been a better way to approach this but Troy is a person that would take it pretty far.
