- The importance of technology during the Western Expansion!
- Canals were a very important technology during the time of the Westward expansion! There were many routes in the East Coast that made it easy to travel to the West Coast, and they cut the time on horse by about a fifth. They were also cheaper, making it a nice alternative for people trying to build a new life on the West.
- These canals, such as the Erie Canal, provided economic value, and established "a bond" between the East and the West of the country.
- Also, during this time steam locomotives and railway cars were created! This allowed people to travel faster along with their things. This technology would make more people travel to the West Coast because it made it easier to get to their location. Also, it allowed them to bring good from the East and create an economy in the West. This invention also led to trains being created!
- However with steamboats people could travel much faster, and did not have to experience the toughness and struggles of traveling by land.
- To add to the great technologies mentioned before, steamboats were also created! One of the biggest problems with traveling to the west was how long it took.
- During this time wagons were also created! These wagons allowed people to travel across land to the West easily and without much work. It provided protection and gave them shelter.
- Maps were also created during this time, which made it easier to travel to the West, as people could navigate efficiently and find the fastest routes!
