- At the beginning of this chapter it is shown how Esch is beginning to have problems with pregnancy and is showing in the nausea she has, and although it seems that she is a strong woman and that she could handle this alone internally, it is like a box of secrets that soon will consume her.

- Esch came out of the bathroom and Randall without letting her pass asked her if she was okay, she told him that everything was fine and that she would go back to sleep, when she woke up for the second time she decided to start reading her book on Greek mythology when sketah stands in front of the door and begins to cry and so esch prepares herself for what is coming
- yeah, dont worry, im just going back to sleep
- esch you okay?
- skeetah thinks china's milk is bad for the puppies but esch is pretty sure is pavot a virus, and one of the puppies looked very bad, so skeetah and esch decide that the best thing is to end his life so that he stops suffering because is a very strong disease
- skeetah what wrong, why are u crying??
- No,i think he got pavot
- i think we'll have to.. drown her
- They're sick,he is sick,maybe is china's milk
- After Skeetah and Esch decide to drown the dog, Junior realizes and opposes this, thinks that there is another way out, and tries to convince them but Randall arrives and says to leave, Randall tells Esch that he is very young and That's when Esch tells Randall to understand that they were young too, they had to suffer and cry themselves to sleep because of their mother's death.
- i know, But we was young too...

- Esch accompanies skeetah to hunt a squirrel for dinner and during that he tells her that he knows about her and manny's love affair and that he disagrees at all and that is how she starts to feel bad again, but they return home for dinner with family as if nothing had happened except that skeetah is about to face his reality.
- you know, Y’all don’t look right together
- minutes after dinner skeetah says goodbye to nella, because esch named her like that and then he snaps its neck, just like he and Randall remember their mother killing chickens, esch according to the sweet and sensible memory of her mother she doesn't remember that she used to do that, but no doubt it was an unforgettable moment for skeetah.
