I have a test tomorrow and I'm really struggling understanding the Health Belief Model.
Oh, really I can help explain it to you! I learned about it 2 years ago in college
Please Help! Can I start by asking when was the theory developed.
Well it was developed in 1952 and originated from Field- Theory Lewin
Can you please explain it to me?
The Health belief model seeks to explain and predict sick role behavior, preventative health behavior and illness behavior.
perceived susceptibility is a concept in HBM and it is defined aas beliefs about the chances of getting a condition.
Perceived Severity is another crucial concept and deals with the Beliefs about the seriousness of a condition and its consequences
You also need to know these concepts can vary dependent demographic, psychological and structural variables
Another concept is Perceived benefits and is defined Beliefs about the effectiveness of taking action to reduce risk or seriousness
Please Keep telling me the concepts
okay! Well, Perceived barriers is a concept and is stated as "Beliefs about the material and psychological costs of taking action"
There is 3 more concepts I will explain for you.
Awesome!
Self-efficacy is another concept and it kind of relates to you since you are so confident but it is defined as "Confidence in one’s ability to take action"
Cues to Action is very important and is a concept defined as the Factors that activate readiness to change
