- France was reached by the French. The French controlled trade along the St. Lawrence River and Great Lakes. They marketed the furs to create hats, scarves, jackets, and many other items. It was a long, but successful trip/route.
- The English Voyageurs/First Nations on the other hand, were blocked by Adirondack Mountains. it prevented them from the fur trade for many years. They finally got in and had positive and negative effects (next panel)
- Positive Effects
- Culture learned from each other with languages, technology, tools, and material. Together they created a new culture called metis, -when a European and First Nations people have a child together-. The British and French made a lot of money selling these furs while the First Nations got a lot a materials and tools to survive.
- The English took over First Nations territory. As a result, the First Nations lost their culture and were decimated by diseases introduced by Britain. There was a lot of violence, and battles broke out as well. This was one of many problems, another wad the whiskey trade that caused many arguments, fights, and deaths
