- CHAPTER 1: ON DECK
- One December morning, Steamship Tabo is sailing to Laguna, the passengers on deck are talking with each other
- While Dona Victorina rants and blames the Indios. Ben Zayb argues with Padre Camorra and Padre Salvi joins the argument, they suggests different ways how to straighten out the river
- Why is the ship so slow !!
- Simoun join the conversation and open up a radical solution
- Dig a canal from the entrance of the river to make a new channel, and close up old Pasig.
- And people would rebel also.
- We have to spend a lot of money with this idea, there is no money to pay for the laborers
- Simoun and Don Custodio gets into an argument whether the Indios would rebel or not
- Back then, the Egyptians and Jewish people did not rebel
- The Indios are different and have rebelled before
- Simoun leaves to go below the deck. Meanwhile, Don Custodio complains to Ben Zayb about what Simoun suggested
- How shameless he is to open up his own suggestions !!!
- Don Custodio suggests his project to clear the sandbars of Laguna and breed ducks. Ben Zayb agrees but Dona Victorina gets angry when he hear this suggestion.
- If all people will breed ducks there will be more DISGUSTING BALUT EGGS !!!!
- The inhabitants of towns should breed ducks
