Storyboard Text

  • Introduction
  • I want to be a leader, Kiowa!
  • To be a leader, you must go through a quest.
  • Purification
  • Oh Creator, purify this youngling for his journey.
  • Departing
  • Go forth my child, seek your fate!
  • It was a cold day on the Hood River camp, now known as the Yakama reservation, located in present-day Washington. A young man is known by the name Aditsan prepares for a life-altering experience; his vision quest. His tribe known as the Wanapam tribe were displaced by the British Army during their time, ruling over North America. Recently they were free from their grasps after the Revolutionary War. Aditsan pursues to be a voice, a leader for the tribe after losing many of their elders and leaders.
  • Trial by Sacrifice
  • Creator, I praise and adore you. Bring forth your spirits.
  • One of the remaining Elders, Kiowa, invites Aditsan into his sweat lodge. As Aditsan entered the darkness of the lodge engulfed him, which was soon interrupted by a spark of flames, illuminating the room. Aditsan got onto his knees, crunching against the cold soil. Aditsan felt the sweat trickle down his fingers and the bridge of his nose. He was now purified. As he left the lodge, the cold breeze pierced his face, determined to complete his goal.
  • A Sign
  • HEAR YOU CRY!
  • As he stood in silence, he finally opened his eyes after exiting, staring into the blue skies. Soon he diverted his eyes downwards, being face to face with Kiowa. Kiowa explained to Aditsan that he must travel down the lonesome road towards the unknown forest beyond camp Hood River. He must pray and fast in the forest for 2 days, and the fate of his identity will be revealed. Subsequently, Aditsan ran off towards the treeline.
  • Way Home
  • Am I a coward..?
  • As Aditsan reached the heart of the forest, it was night, his steps growing slower, before halting in his tracks, the snow crunching beneath his fur boots. Reflecting back on legends others have passed to him, Aditsan was frightened as he knew this forest to be the graveyard of many British soldiers, killed in ambushes on the soil he stands on. Soon he got onto his knees, praying. Although there were instances where he came across the wild game, he resisted his urges to feed himself.
  • I cannot eat those..
  • The night grew colder, Aditsan silently cried to himself, pushing through his pain. He was still in his same position, praying, begging for a sign. It was as if the winter froze him into place, feeling immense pain after every slight movement. Suddenly he heard a caw, a crow swooped down onto a log, in front of him. Its talons grasp the dying log, staring into the soul of Aditsan. Aditsan suddenly heard the crow speak, saying; "They will hear you cry." which was followed by an ear-piercing screech from the crow as it flew away.
  • Oh my goodness..
  • It was now morning, Aditsan being released from the grasp of the forest. His face was covered in frost, his pinky having frostbites. Now headed back to Hood River camp. Aditsan reflected during his slow paces home. He was frightened and did not know what it meant. He thought the crow called him cowardice and useless, Aditsan did not want to be useless to his tribe. Aditsan wanted to help them thrive again. Soon he was met with the entrance to camp Hood River.
  • ADITSAN! YOU ARE HOME MY BOY!
