Ancient Technological Advancements: Gun Powder

- Gunpowder is the earliest know chemical explosive and was the biggest advancement in warfare. It was created by Chinese Monks in the 9th Century CE, while on a quest to find life-extending elixir. It is said that Taoist Monks coincidentally created gunpowder by applying heat to sulfur and calcium acetate. The first use of gunpowder in China 1000 CE was used for warfare, fire-producing, and compound. Now gunpowder is used everyday whether its warfare, ignition charges, primers, fuses, and more.
- Gunpowder is used in many various ways but the most common way is through warfare. Gunpowder is put inside of bullets that then enter a firearm most commonly used in war. The process happening within that bullet is inside gunpowder their is a fuel and an oxidizer , and sulfur. Since gunpowder is a fine powder, a lot of it is quickly burned, concluding in a lot of hot gas and heat being released at once. All this energy forces the gunpowder outward, further igniting more of it and causing the explosion that we can see.
- Gunpowder has had a large impact on society as it is a technological advancement that changed the world. Gunpowder set many countries free from rule such as the United States free from Britain during the Revolutionary war. The invention of gunpowder has changed the world by becoming the basis for almost every weapon used in war. Ultimately it made warfare all over the world very different, affecting the way battles were fought and borders were drawn.
