- Jing Mei's mother moves to the United States after the tragedy that happened in China and for a better life than the one they had before

- Jingmei's mother wanted Jingmei to become a child prodigy and become famous, but Jingmei didn't want to. She hated all the testing and training she was forced to do.

- old Chong and Jing mei's mother´s sign up Jingmei for a church talent show. Jingmei is performing, and she sings badly.
