  • Today's lesson: White-tailed Deer Ecosystem
  • We are going on a virtual field trip to learn about white tailed deer and how they changed life for humans.
  • White-Tailed deer
  • Deer, as with all living organisms, play an important role in an ecosystem.
  • White-tailed deer are the most populated deer species found in the United States.
  • We are herbivores and prey.
  • Food Chain
  • A deer's diet changes depending on its habitat and the season. Its stomach has four chambers for digesting food
  • We eat green plants in the spring and summer. In the fall we eat corn, and acorns. In the winter we eat plant buds and twigs.
  • Habitat
  • Because there are not many natural predators, deer populations can sometimes grow too large for their environment and deer can starve to death.Because there are not many natural predators, deer populations can sometimes grow too large for their environment and deer can starve to death.
  • The white-tailed deer lives in wooded areas. In some areas, deer overpopulation is a problem.
  • Our population is very high. PLEASE DON'T HUNT US!
  • Human effect
  • Humans and deer often share a habitat, there can be problems for both of them. When a deer's habitat becomes smaller because of human development, deer will often eat food from gardens.Deer need to cross roads to look for food and water and are sometimes struck by cars. People can get Lyme Disease from the deer tick.
  • Conclusion
  • All organisms both land and aquatic are interconnected by their need for food and shelter.
  • Plants will continue to grow as long as they continue to receive sunlight and water, therefore there will always be a plentiful supply for deer to consume. healthy deer population in turn provides considerable prey for predators like wolves.it only takes human interference in the form of hunting or habitat destruction for an ecosystem to break down.
