  • New school New friends
  • Challenging summer band camp...
  • Mexico trip with the fam
  • A person that truly impacted me was actually someone who I would least expect it to be. I was assigned a seat next to some weird quiet kid. It was my first day at this new school, and I was also shy and quiet. However, I eventually opened up to him and he was actually really nice to me. To this day he is still one of my best friends. He has always been there for me, and overall, this experience taught me the importance of trying new things and not judging a book by it's cover.
  • Want to be a weed
  • I've been in band since middle school, but was never truly invested in it because I was never challenged enough. That all changed when I entered high school. Marching band required dedication, consistency, and determination that I had never been faced with. It disciplined me in so many ways because I was one of the two freshmen on the snareline, and the rest were seniors. There were many things I had to quickly pick up at a fast pace, but it was all worth it because it made me a mature and disciplined individual overall. I realized that it is okay to be uncomfortable because it makes you better.
  • COVID-19
  • Last summer my family and all of my mom's side of the family went to Cancun together. Going to mexico forced me to speak spanish, eat new foods, and open up to my family members which is something that I had not been used to. Not only did this trip improve my spanish speaking, but it also helped me created many special bonds and memories.
  • In the poem," Identity", by Polanco, it talks about how he would rather face hardships while developing than being protected by a pot of dirt. I feel as though I relate to this greatly because in situations of adversity, I am able to go outside of my bubble and prevail, rather than just staying in my comfort zone.
  • During quarantine many people, such as myself, had to cancel a lot of their plans due to COVID. They had to deal with wearing masks and social distancing. After losing my grandpa to this disease, I realized how serious this pandemic was, and was forced to adapt. This helped me as a person because it showed me that not everything goes as planned, and it is important to change in order to thrive in any situation.
