- King Laius was warned that if he had a son, the son would be his downfall. Eventually his wife, Queen Jocasta, gave birth to a son. To avoid the prophecy King Laius had a servant take their son, Oedipus.
- The servant arrives at the mountain and ties Oedipus' feet together and leaves him to die. However, the servant decides that he cannot leave the child like this.
- The servant gave Oedipus to a shepherd who he had passed on the road, Unfortunately, the shepherd was unable to raise Oedipus. The shepherd gave Oedipus to King Polybus of Corinth and his wife Queen Merope.
- Oedipus is now older and he goes to an oracle. He is told of the same prophecy that his father was told of. In order to avoid the prophecy Oedipus flees Corinth and travels to the City of Thebes. On his way to Thebes Oedipus is confronted by King Laius and his servants. One of the servants pushes Oedipus to the side which then starts a fight. Oedipus kills the king and all of his servants except for one that was able to flee.
- Oedipus continues towards Thebes. Just outside of the city he is confronted by a sphinx. The sphinx gives Oedipus a riddle which he correctly answers. The sphinx is defeated and Oedipus continues into the city. He is then meet by Creon, Queen Jacosta's brother. Creon informs Oedipus that because he defeated the sphinx, he has inherited the throne and therefore the queen. By marrying Queen Jacosta, Oedipus is unknowingly fulfilling the prophecy. The went on to have four children.
- After many years of being married to Jocasta, Oedipus returns to an oracle and is told of the prophecy. Queen Jocasta finds out and hangs herself. Oedipus is exiled from Thebes and his daughter Antigone follows him. His daughter guides him around because he blinded himself after finding Jocasta dead. He eventually meets his end and dies in Colonus.
