- Roderick Usher wrote a letter to the narrator to come and visit because he is ill. The narrator observes that black house and after he comes in, he looks his pale old friend.
- Usher reveals that his sister Madeline has a strange illness. As the days passed, Madeline dies and Usher ask the narrator to help him to keep her body in a room under the house, where no one will wake her. The narrator notices that Madeline’s heart was not beating, but her body was not cold. Usher’s appearance and behavior worsen after her death.
- Shortly after Madeline was placed in the coffin, Roderick begins to hear strange noises in the house. One night, Usher comes to the narrator’s bedroom and opens the window to a terrifying storm.
- Usher talk that he are hearing sounds from his sister’s coming up the stairs. The door open, and there is Madeline, covered in blood..
- Madeline leaps upon Roderick and they fall to the floor. They doesn't move. They were both dead. The narrator runs from the house.
- Then a bright flash of lightning hit the house and the walls broke. With a great roar, the house fall into the lake. Eventually, the house is completely submerged and disappears.
