Storyboard Text

  • Early Life as a CourtierSPAIN 1507
  • From a young age, Inigo wanted to become a courtier like his mentor Don Juan Velásquez de Cuéllar. So at the age of sixteen years, he was sent to serve as a page to Juan Velazquez, the treasurer of the kingdom of Castile. Being a member of the household, he attended court quite regularly and developed the taste for it, including the ladies. The impact this had on him was during his 11 years there he learned many skills like administration, diplomacy, courtly manners, and more which would help him in future life.
  • 'Battle Of Pamplona'PAMPLONA 1521
  • Inigo was a soldier defending the town of Pamplona against the French. During the battle a cannonball struck Ignatius, wounding one leg and breaking the other. Because they admired his courage the French soldiers carried him back to recuperate at Loyola Castle. The impact of this is during his recovery he was quite bored and the only two books to read were, The life of Christ and the book of Saints. He read these two books and they changed his life as he saw that he needed to change and live a life serving God.
  • After many years of changing his life, In 1539, Ignatius asked all of his companions to come to Rome to discuss their future. After many weeks of prayer and discussion, they decided to form a community, with the Pope's approval. They would place themselves at the disposal of the Holy Father to travel wherever he should wish to send them for whatever duties. This group became known as the Society of Jesus. The impact of this is that St Ignatius, starting this group, went on to serve the people, and serve his God.
