- we need bread for our family!
- A poor french economy had led to a scarcity of bread and high prices. On October 5, 1789 a large group of women in a Paris marketplace began to revolt.
- How we will feed our children?
- The crowd first took the Hotel the Ville in Paris where they were able to get some bread as well as weapons. There were men included in the march as well.
- After marching, the crowd arrived at the king's palace in Versailles, the demanded to meet the king. He agreed to provide them food and promised more in the future
- Do something about the price of food!
- I promise I will change things
- After the agreement, many people stayed. Some of the crowd were able to get to the palace. Fighting broke out and some of the guards were killed. But peace was restored by Marquis the Lafayette.
- The the crowd demanded to see the Queen Marie Antoinette, they blamed their problems on her. She stood on the balcony, she may have been killed but Lafayette kissed her hand and the crown calmed.
- The revolutionaries demanded the king to return to Paris with them, he agreed. The queen and the king traveled back to Paris with the crowd and the king went to live at Tuileries Palace in Paris.
