  • Hi! I'm Addison. Middle school can be a very stressful time. You could be stressed with different things like homework, sports, tests, and personal stressors. I am hear to help you deal with that stress.
  • Let's start with sports. You are getting ready for a track meet. You start to feel the butterflies in your stomach. What do you do? Well there are many things that you can do. You can go out for a walk, have a talk with your friend or adult. This could get your mind on something else, helping you do your best.
  • What about tests? Tests can be a huge stressor for many people. Stress and its effect on the brain might be one reason that students from low-income neighborhoods tend to fare worse on high-stakes tests. Also Boys stress level was higher than girls. Some people do study for a test but when test day comes, they forget. This is because when you are stressed you might be thinking of when you get the test back. Take a deep breath and focus. That dose help. It gets more oxygen to the brain, and that can help you think more clearly.
  • Homework is a big stressor for many middle school kids. Try and do your homework in little bits. Do one class and then take a break and go outside. Then do another class. You can also spend time with your pet. Studies show that you stress level goes down when you spent time with your pet.
  • Many kids and teens experience their parents arguing or fighting. This can impact their lives a lot. Some teens can't sleep because their parents are yelling late into the night. This can affect how well they do on tests or in sports games. You can't exactly stop the fighting and arguing, but you can ask one of your parents to hang out with so they both aren't near each other. Not near each other, no fighting.
  • There you go. Now that you know about stress and how to deal with stress, you can hopefully enjoy life a little bit more. Spend more times with friends and family. Try not to think about school when you are at home all of these things can help you be calmer and a better person.
