  • Things have been going downhill lately. I've been getting headaches all the time, feeling drowsy and sad and I can't stop thinking about our divorce.

  • Divorce is a serious and life-changing decision that can negatively affect someone as it can change your family structure, destroy work and personal relationships, cause less time with children and worsen your financial situation.

  • Therapy is one of the best ways to overcome depression. Therapy helps change negative thinking patterns and improves coping skills according to healthdirect.gov.au. People with depression can also learn healthy habits that teach them appropriate ways to deal with stressful situations, such as divorce. Therapy can lead to better health as it can improve mental function and prolificness.

  • Eating healthy is a great coping mechanism for depression. Not only does eating nutritional foods improve physical health (lowers the chance of developing illnesses, improves muscle development, and strengthens bones) but it also improves mental health. A study in 2017 recorded by the National Library of Medicine shows that foods such as fruit, vegetables, fish, etc, are associated with lowering symptoms of depression.

  • Exercising is a great way to cope with depression. Not only does exercise lead to better physical health, but it also leads to better mental health. Research suggests that the mental and physical benefits of exercise lead to overall higher self-esteem. Exercise takes your mind off your worries, helps you gain confidence, and allows for sociability.

  • Doing activities with friends is another great coping mechanism for depression. During times of need, your friends can emotionally support you which can improve your overall health. Activities with friends increase your sense of belonging and purpose, self-confidence and self-worth, boost happiness and reduce stress.
  • Crying is another great coping mechanism for depression. Crying releases endorphins that help ease both physical and emotional pain. Crying relieves stress, restores emotional balance, and makes you mentally stronger.
