- THEBANKS ISLANDS ARE THE NORTH OF THE Melanesian. New Hebrides. The creator god Quat, one of whose major tasks in the creation was to discover darkness, thus reversing reversing from chaos in which life begin in darkness and light
- once there was light everywhere all the time. The light shone on the mother stone, Quatgoro, and one day she broke open to release quat and his 11 brothers, all named Tangaro and each representing a characteristic or a plant
- As for Quat he continued with his his creative work when he made pigs that walked on two legs his brothers made fun of him saying his pigs were silly looking like humans Quat shortened them to walk on two
- Quat made everything canoes plants animals and rivers and so forth the brothers kept complaining about all the light so quat got into a cone and paddled his back into his own word
- On his way home Quat stopped at Torres Islands to exchange a bit of night some birds From them on birds.From then on birds have always followed night with their chirping for day when it comes
- Quat confronted them and told them to be quiet soon they all began drifting to sleep quat reassured them its only sleep when the brothers woke up they saw the first time they were happy.they began their day's work.
