In North America, the fur trade brought a great change. In Europe and Asia, there was a high demand for beaver and sea otter furs to make clothing.
Europeans came to North America to trade with the First Nations. They needed furs to survive and to make clothing for the winter.
First Nations, Metis and Inuit acted as guides and traded furs for European goods, like clothes, guns and metal.
First Peoples developed a common trading language with the Europeans. It was called Chinook and some words are still used today.

It was not good when one group was taking advantage of another and underselling the price of a product.
