- The girl was given the name ‘Santosh’, whichmeans contentment. But Santosh was not alwayscontent with her place in a traditional way of life.She began living life on her own terms from thestart. Where other girls wore traditional Indiandresses, Santosh preferred shorts.
- Santosh’s parents were affluent landowners whocould afford to send their children to the bestschools, even to the country’s capital, New Delhi,which was quite close by. But, in line with theprevailing custom in the family, Santosh had tomake do with the local village school.

- She joined Uttarkashi’s Nehru Institute of Mountaineering , She later wrote and apology letter to her parents . went on anexpedition every year. Her climbing skills matured rapidly . Santosh Yadav scaled Mt Everest, becoming the youngest woman in the world to achieve the feat. She then scaled the Everest a second time, thus setting a record as theonly woman to have scaled the Everest twice
