- "If you press the button, somewhere in the world someone you don't know will die. In return for which you will receive a payment of $50,000"
- The argument
- A chance to take that trip to Europe we’ve always talked about.
- Norma, no!
- The main character Norma and her husband Arthur, are at their apartment in New York City at 8 o'clock at night when they found a mysterious box with a glass dome covering a red button, at their door. After they had gotten the box they hear the doorbell ring.
- The decisions
- After a little talk Norma and Arthur let the man in who was at the door. The man told them it if the press the button inside the dome someone will die and they will get $50,000.
- The consequences/ realization
- Norma and Arthur argue about weather they should press the button or not and Arthur thinks that it is not worth taking someone's life but Norma on the other hand only cares about herself and how it will benefit her and not the consequences of her actions.
- The truth
- You said I wouldn’t know the one that died!
- One day when Arthur is on his way to work Norma Presses the button without him knowing. Nothing happened and she thought everything was fine but little did she know when she pressed the button it actually killed her husband!
- After getting a call from the hospital informing Norma that her husband was killed after getting shoved off of the platform at the train station, Norma realizes that her husband had life-insurance for $25,000 and it was double if it was and accident.
- Arthur's life-insurance if for $50,000 if he dies because of an accident.
- Norma gets a call from the man who told them what the button does, and Norma asks the man why the button killed her husband even though he said that it it would kill someone that she doesn't know. The man replies by saying, “Do you really think you knew your husband?”
- Do you really think you knew your husband?”
