  • Good morning class! Today we will be discussing some types of drugs.
  • Let us start by talking about what you know. Can anyone of you describe what a drug is?
  • I saw the big kids smoking stinky stuff, they called it marrijauna or mary jane!
  • One time my sister was breathing in stuff out of a plastic bag and it made her act weird.
  • Mostly it is smoked or eaten. It can make you feel like you can't think straight, it can cause problems with your memory, make you feel dizzy and some people can experience psychosis, this will feel like you can not tell what is real or you may hear or see things that other's can not.
  • Marijuana is a green leafy dired drug, that has a distinct smell
  • Discussing drugs with children can help them better understand the implications of drug use. Drug education should begin in early elementary years as it is an effective preventative measure (Austin & Boyd. 2015).
  • Marijuana is also addictive, and it can make you feel anxious and depressed.
  • The teacher is trying to start the class by getting an understanding of what the kids know so she can gear the education towards age appropriateness as well as clarifying any misconceptions (Austin & Boyd. 2015).
  • It helps to have visual aids in the affects of drugs. Makes me not want to touch them.
  • My older sister smokes marijuana and I do not think she had this education growing up. I find this useful.
  • The teacher is trying to help the children understand what marijuana is and what it can do to your body. Schools are a good venue to teach about drug education because they reach many youths are in close proximity to target groups, and they are less intimidating than mental health centers (Austin & Boyd. 2015).
  • It is stated that nurses are underused in schools and could be a good interaction with youth in providing them with education and programs for early interventions into health and mental health realted issues (Austin & Boyd, 2015). Nurses are the forfront of education for most adult mental health programs, it would be great to see more nurses in helping with youth in schools.
  • It is the support and education through schools that can be effective in detering substance use in early youth (Austin & Boyd, 2015).
  • Why do people do marijuana if it's not good for you?
  • Providing children with education through media has proven to be successful because children of this generation are media involved (Austin & Boyd, 2015).
  • Class we are going to watch a vidoe on the effects drugs have on your brain.
