- jane eyre was an orphan. she lived unhappily with her aunt and three cousins who treated her unfairly. she was locked in the red room where her uncle died, by her aunt, this gave her nightmares.
- climax - the scary discovery
- she was sent to an awful school called the lowood institute. her one friend, helen, died from sickness. she struggled through.
- falling action - a new life for jane
- eventually she was able to leave and secured a job as the governess of adele, the ward of handsome and brooding mr. rochester. jane found herself falling in love, but she never thought he would ever love her.
- resolution - the return
- mr. rochester had fallen for her. they were going to be married. however, on that day, jane found out he had a wife, she was crazy and had been living in the attic.
- betrayed, jane leaves mr. rochester and runs far away. she is destitute when taken in by the rivers family. she finds out they are cousins and her uncle let her a fortune. john rivers asks her to marry him but she refuses, realising she still loves mr. rochester.

- she decides to return to mr. rochester and finds out his wife died two months after she left. they get married, happily, and have a child.
