- Ichabod Crane is the schoolmaster of Sleepy Hollow, a rural town famous for the legendary tales. The favorite one is the Headless Horseman.
- Climax
- Crane tries to marry Katrina Van Tassel, who is the daughter of a wealthy farmer. However, she has another suitor called Brom Bones. Both Brom and Crane went to Katrina's merry making.
- Falling Action
- Crane heard lots of ghost tales at the party, and sees goblins in everything on his way home from the party in the duration of the witching hour. Finally, he sees a headless horseman.
- Resolution
- The headless horseman matches Crane's pace and pursues Crane through Sleepy Hollow. Crane wants to reach the bridge fast.
- Crane manages to reach the bridge. The horseman throws his flaming pumpkin at Crane's head. The pumpkin missile hits Crane's cranium and makes him fall off and pass out. The missile burns Crane to nothing.
- The next morning, Crane is not seen. A search turns up a the smashed pumpkin, his hat, and other belongings. Hans Van Ripper, one of the villagers, was first to the scene and quickly burns up everything Crane left behind, including the pumpkin.
