- In 1910 Japan annexed Korea and fought over the country. Japan stripped everything out of Korea and ruled Korea until 1945 when they surrendered in WWII.
- North Invades The South
- After many wars, Korea was divided by the 38th parallel that split North and South Korea. The USA assisted  South Korea in democracy while the USSR assisted North Korea in communism. In 1945 Americans took over Japan
- United Nations Resolution 83
- China shared a border with North Korea and fought in its own long decade of Civil War.  WWII was interrupted and resumed shortly after.  The People's Republic of China defeated the Chinese Nationalists, exiling them back to Taiwan in 1949.  China became communist contributing to the domino theory.
- Battles to The Chinese Border
- In June of 1950, the communist government of North Korea crossed the 38th parallel. They invaded democratic South Korea. North leader Kim Il Sung intended goal was to unify Korea under his communist regime. Kim II Sung had more soldiers and caused South Koreans to retreat, and many were even defecting to the North Korean side.
- The United Nations met to discuss the situation.  They veto power in the UN Security Council, this angered the Soviet Union because the UN wasn't recognized in the communist PRC as the legitimate government of China.  This created Resolution 83, Harry Truman got Americans to help on the recommendation that UN members should fight on behalf of the South Koreans. Americans tried to stop communism and had policies such as the Containment Policy.
- Led by the United States, a force of 1,000,000 soldiers joined the South Koreans in the fight. After many victories, North Koreans were pushed back past the 38th parallel and continued to push all the way to the Chinese border. If the UN didn't allow the Chinese troops they would have fought back. At this time Douglas MacArthur was fired because he didn't want to get rid of communism.
