- Tablet 7: Enkidu had a dream where the gods had a council to punish Enkidu and Gilgamesh. In the end they chose to kill Enkidu. After Enkidu began to waste away.
- Tablet 8: Gilgamesh pulled the veil of a bride over the face of his beloved. Gilgamesh raised his lament over Enkidu's death.
- Tablet 9: Gilgamesh was wondering outside of Uruk's walls. He then decided that he was going to find out the secrets to escape death by talking to Uta-napishti, the one who survived the great flood. He came to the mountains running into 2 scorpions. Traveled through a garden and reached the sea.
- Tablet 10: Gilgamesh then met Siduri, a tavern keeper near the sea. She told Gilgamesh a message to be happy, to which he ignored, but still sent him to meet Urshanabi who could take him across the waters to see Uta-Napishti.
- Tablet 11: After getting a ferry to cross the ocean, Gilgamesh finally met Uta-Napishti. He told the story of how he escaped the great Flood with the help of Ea, the ocean God. he then challenged Gilgamesh that if he deserves immortality he has to stay up of a whole week. Gilgamesh fell asleep after sitting. Failling the challenge, Uta-Napishti decided to tell him about a plant that could restore his youth. Though upon returning back to Uruk, the plant was stolen by a snake.
- Tablet 12: Shamash the Sun opened a whole into the underworld so the spirit of Enkidu could escape. Gilgamesh begged Enkidu to tell him what it is like in the underworld. But, Enkidu warned Gilgamesh that he couldn't as it would be too much to handle.
