- The cops talked back to Amal but then Amal said something about how they were tracking mud into the foyer and then Jawad Sahib comes home and kicks them out.
- Since Amal is teaching Fatima with books and that she only had one book to read the teacher gives her some books to work on with Fatima. "For Fatima she's a child who works at the estate. I'm teaching her how to read" (Saeed 185).
- The teacher laughs at AMal when she grabs books out of a kids book basket because he thought it was for her. When Aml tells him that it is for friend that she is teaching how to read he is shocked.
- Amal first read to Fatima when she could not read the hard words in the book so Amal read it so Fatima could understand the book before reading it. "I read her the story of a lion and a mouse" (Saeed 186)
- This shows how Amal while at the estate she was able to make a lot out of nothing.
- Fatima listened to Amal read so much she was able to read some of the words before even knowing them. "I watched her mouth form some of the words in disbelief" (Saeed 186-187).
