  • The Colonists had a great relationship with the Britian until after the French and Indian war. That war left Britian with alot of debts. Britian thought a good way to deal with their debt was to tax the colonists. This got the colonists mad, starting the tesion the between the Colonists and Britian,

  • After the French and Indian war Britian sent soldiers to the colonies to protect the colonists. Britian thought a proper way for the colonists to pay the soldiers was to let them live in their houses and supply them with food and fuel, thus resulting in The Quartering Act. Colonists didn't like this rule, because of which treating the soldiers badly.

  • Britian still needed money to pay their debts and to pay their soldiers. To solve this they decieded to have colonists pay for the soldiers protecting them by passing a new tax law called "The Stamp Act".This Law forced colonists to pay tax on printed paper with a large blue stamp to prove it was payed. Colonists started protesting this by refusing to buy the stamps and even attacking tax colloecters.

  • Pre Boston Massacre Colonists and Soldiers hate for each other grew every day resulting in name calling and sometimes even fights, Yet on March 5, 1770 it got way out of hand. On that cold night a soldier was standing in front of a Customs House where taxes were collected. Somewhere around nine o'clock a crowd of angry protesting colonists started gathering at the Customs House throwing snowballs and rocks at the soldiers. Lucky for the soldier, Captin Thomas Preston and 7 other soldiers hurried to the soldier's side. Captin Thomas Preston told his men "Not to fire their guns." Yet one soldier clamied to have heard Captin Thomas Preston say "Fire," and fired. The crowd drew closer while othe soldiers panicked and shot too. Within moments 5 people lie dead or dying with 6 wounded.
  • After the Massacre Britan repealed all unpopular or hated laws except the tax on tea. Colonists refused to buy tea from the British East India Company resulting in the company losing a great deal of money. To stop this Britian passed the Tea Act in 1773 forcing the British East India company to be the only place the colonists are allowed to buy tea from in a attempt to force the coloninists to give in and buy British tea. Many Colonists protested by not buying tea and speaking out against the law. A group of Colonists in Boston went even further and on December 16, 1773 dressed up as a group of native americans, and then climbed aboard tea ships dumping boxes opoun boxes of loose tea leaves. While doing this they where still carefull as to not damage the ships. They spilt over 90,000 ponds of tea.

  • After the Boston Tea Party the Parliament decided on punishing the colonists with many new incredibly harsh laws which colonists named The Intolerable Acts. One law prevented trade ships from leaving or entering Boston harbor until all the lost tea was paid for. Other colonies started helping Boston by sending money, food, and supplies. In September 1774 leaders from 12 colonies gathered in Philadelphia to discuss the problems with Britian resulting in the First Continental Congress.
