- A letter has arrived from distant part of the country. The letter explained body illness of a mental disorder, that this was happening to Usher so the Narrator could go visit him.
- Madeline was placed in the vault, the narrator begin to hear strange noises in the house.

- He fears he buried her alive...The door is open and Madeline is there covered in blood.
- They hear a scream... "I've been hearing sounds from my sisters coffin.

- Mansion collapses (the lightening from the storm destroys the house)"I feel that the period will sooner or later arrive when I must abandon life and reason together."
