Mr. Wormwood, Matilda's father, is very cruel and abusive to his young daughter.

Matilda devises and executes a plan to help Miss Honey get her house back from Miss Trunchbull.

Miss Trunchbull made Miss Honey her slave and cheated her by taking away the house and money that was owed to her.

Miss Honey agrees to take care of Matilda when Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood flee to Spain.

Miss Trunchbull does not treat the students very nicely; she especially despises the youngest class.
