Текст на Статията

  • Oh wow! That is very interesting. Where did this inofmormation come from?
  • Mrs. Niebla, did you know that NASA lit an astronaut on fire to simulate life on Venus?
  • Tony!
  • Donna, this seems like the perfect opportunity to discuss fake news and how we can identify it to make sure that information we are sharing is true.
  • ok...and where did he get his information from?
  • Well, he saw it on Facebook posted by his cousin's friend.
  • Ok. Now that you have found the Facebook post that Tony mentioned, we can use a few strategies to determine if it's true. Are you ready?
  • I'm ready! I do not want to spread misinformation. I would rather spend an extra minute to make sure it's true before I share it.
  • Well lets try adding the word "hoax" to the end of your search with the article's title.
  • Good to hear! First you can right click on the picture and choose to go to the original source.
  • Done! It looks like the news source is called "The Onion". I haven't heard of this news company before.
  • I see a site called snopes.com. It says it is fake and has an explanation.
  • Good! Now you can also check if the story is found in any other news sites. Especially ones that you know are reliable. You can also try to find information about "The Onion"
  • I do not see this story in any other news sites....but I see that The Onion is a satirical digital media. I guess that explains alot.
  • Well done, Donna! Now, remember just because it uses the 5Ws + H that we have been using to write newspaper articles in class doesn't mean that it is necessarily true information.
  • Thank you so much, Mrs. Niebla. I will question what I read more and use these tools to check the information.
