- Cahit Arf was born on 24 October 1910 in Selanik.In 1912,his family migrated to Istanbul and later,they settled in Izmir where Arf was received primary education.Upon receveing a scholarship from Paris,Ecole Normale Superiore.
- Cahit Arf is a important Turkish mathematician.He is Turkiye's best mathematician.He is known for the Arf invariant of a quadratic form in characteristic 2 (applied in knot theory and surgery theory)in topology,the Hasse Arf theorem in ramificiation theory.
- Returning to Turkiye,he taught matematics at Galatasaray.In 1933,he joined Istanbul's matematic and Istanbul university.He worked there until his ınvolment with TUBİTAK upon president appointment in 1962.
- Arf's portrait was depicted on the reverse of the Turkiye's 10 lira banknote ıssued in 2009
- Arf's influence on mathematics in particular was very profound.Although he had very formal students,had fruitful discussions with him about their point of interest.
- He faciliated the now-celebrated visit of Robert Langlands(now famus for the Langlards program)during which Langlands worked out some ardous calculations on the epsilon factors of Artin L-Factors
