- Welcome everyone, we start with a brief description on when American Indian Movement was created.
- AIM was founded in the late 1960s by activists.

- The American Indian Movement was started by indigenous Indians in the United States.
- The Indigenous Indians had started to work in the urban organizations, which was a key historical circumstancebehind AIM’s foundation.
- Indigenous Indians were facing social injustices including police brutalities, lack of occupation and colonialism.
- The Cause of AIM Formation
- These actions made the ethnicity feel devalued and inferior, as they could notexercise their rights to vote, or hold influential positions of power. Generally, they were notenjoying the federal resources, but instead relied on the power of their fragmented groups.

- The AIM Goals
- The American Indian Movement’s formation aimed for the American population toacknowledge the existence of the group, and its position in the society. For instance, mostbureaucrats and lawmakers failed to acknowledge that the native Indians were true members ofthe society.
- Therefore, the native Indians formed AIM to have a voice, and make the American populationwhich was ignoring them give them attention.
- How AIM Used Religion
- For any movement, religion is a key factor towards victory achievement. According to Wintu, AIM used religion as the basis of forming its principles and goals while striving to getrecognition and assume leadership positions. For instance, the native Indians had formed theGhost Dance religion which gave the populations the conviction of their worth and helped themexpress their heritage.
- The group functioned as the top organization in the hierarchy of thenatives, and it focused on religious affairs.

- Nevertheless, AIM founders acknowledged itsimportant spiritual role, and even when they realized the group was not sufficient to fight theirrights, they involved some of its aspects in the other social organizations.
