Текст на Статията

  • Hamlet's Truth
  • "But to persever in obstinate condolement is a course of impious stubbornness."
  • "Together with all forms, moods, shapes of grief, That can denote me truly."
  • Hamlet Sr. > Claudius
  • "Things rank and gross in nature possess it merely. That it should come to this:..."
  • "But two months dead - nay, not so much, not two. So excellent a king, that was to this Hyperion to a satyr"
  • The Mother
  • "She married. O, most wicked speed, to post with such dexterity to incestuous sheets! It is not, nor it cannot come to good. But break, my heart, for I must hold my tongue."
  • Hamlet is telling King Claudius and his mother, The Queen, about how much grief he is feeling over the loss of his father. Claudius calls Hamlet a stubborn idiot and basically tells him he should get over it.
  • Hamlet's Encounter
  • "But, howsomever thou pursues this act, taint not thy mind, nor let thy soul contrive against thy mother aught. Leave her to heaven.."
  • After his conversation with King Claudius and his mom, Hamlet is now alone and is talking more in depth about his feelings. It is clear that he is very upset about his father's death, and how Claudius is now queen not even two months after Hamlet Sr. died.
  • A Depressing Sight
  • "this brave o'er-hanging firmament, this majestical roof, fretted with golden fire-why, it appeareth nothing to me but a foul and pestilent congregation of vapors."
  • As Hamlet continues explaining his grief, he shifts focus towards his mother (Queen Gertrude). He is very upset with her because she married within months of his father dying. Hamlet is also angry because she married his uncle.
  • Self Doubt
  • "Yet I, a dull and muddy-mettled rascal, peak like John-a-dreams, unpregnant of my cause, and can say nothing-not, not for a king upon whose property and most dear life a damned defeat was made. Am I a coward?"
  • Hamlet has an encounter with the ghost. The ghost tells Hamlet to leave his mother be and let karma handle it. Hamlet says that he cannot just let it go. It is part of what is causing his depression.
  • "O most pernicious woman! O villain, villain, smiling, damned villain!"
  • Hamlet talks more about his depression with his old friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. He describes all of these beautiful things about the Earth, but then explains how he sees them as foul and ugly.
  • Hamlet wants to do something about his father's death so bad, but he doesn't know how. He envies those who take quick and passionate action. This also causes him to feel more depressive emotions.
