- How does the vaccine work? I heard someone say that it changes your DNA.
- The vaccine is a messenger RNA vaccine that teaches your body to release antibodies for covid when it detects the harmful virus.
- It is a small weakened sample of covid that gets entered in your body for you to fight off. It is weakened so you can't catch covid from it, but your body is tricked into thinking it is strong and dangerous.
- After that, your body creates an antibody to stop it from attaching to your cells and making more copies of itself. This is a spike protein and your body sends your cells copies of the spike protein to make more copies.
- A strand of the spike protein DNA travels inside your cell to your ribosome and starts a process called transcription, which turns the spike protein into mRNA. After that, the mRNA is used in a process called translation, which converts the instructions written on the mRNA into proteins.
- So really, the vaccine isn't changing your DNA because it isn't heading directly to the nucleus. What REALLY does affect your DNA is the virus because it changes the code in your nucleus, where your DNA is supposed to be stored!
- SO THE VACCINE DOESN'T AFFECT YOUR DNA?
- No it doesn't, but you should always wear your mask and stay safe to avoid covid!
