  • Page 2: Hi guys, it's Shivam here, and oh no, my plants have all failed! It's been hot recently, and maybe because of that my plants have all failed, or I may have just planted them wrong. Regardless if it was the weather or not, I wonder what hotter and colder weather does to plant growth?

  • Table of contents: Page 1 (this one): Table of contents, and title of comic, Page 2: Asking and defining problems, Page 3: Develop and use models, Page 4: Plan and carry out investigations, Page 5: Analyze and interpret data, Page 6: Use math and computational thinking, Page 7: Construct explanations and phenomena, Page 8: Construct scientific argument, Page 9: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate, information, Page 10: Construct device or design solutions, Page 11: Work cited, Page 12: Goodbye
  • Page 4: I have found that if temperatures fall below the ideal rates for plants, photosynthesis, yields, transpiration, and cell division all start fading, because frost, and ice can cause suffocation, cell damage, and injury to plants who can't resist frost, because the frost blocks their oxygen, damages their cells, and covers them, which kills cells, and also suffocates, and injures them, also frost can dehydrate plants, because of suffocation ("Temperature And Plant Growth: How Does Temperature Affect Plant Growth"). Hot weather affects plants, because plants can start shedding blossoms, and leaves to conserve water, also tomatoes, and other foods might be smaller, and in less variety, because of a lack of water, and things needed to grow, insects, could also crawl in plants, because it is habitable for them, it also affects the annual yield with a less amount of fruits, and plants, next it impacts plant growth, by reducing the amount of shoots and roots, plants also absorb less water, causing dehydration, then it affects plants water vapor, causing their water to go through leaves, which reduces photosynthesis, and increases leaf temperature, also plants like grapes, apples, and cherries all are affected because of a lack of flowering, lastly increases in air temperatures affect the fruits we eat, because heat doesn't produce enough, and necessary pollen for them to be pollenated ("Temperature And Plant Growth: How Does Temperature Affect Plant Growth"). This evidence shows that hotter and colder weather does affect plant growth.
  • Page 2: Shivam is having trouble with his plants failing. He asks if hotter and colder weather affects plants growth in anyway.
  • Page 5: This data shows that hotter and colder weather does affect plant growth. Hotter weather negatively impacts plant blossoms and leaves, also hotter weather negatively impacts yields, next hotter weather negatively impacts plant size, also insects can crawl into plants, which is not good, then it negatively impacts shoots and roots for plant growth, also hotter weather can dehydrate plants, making them lose water vapor, also hotter weather could make plants lose pollen, photosynthesis, and flowering, which is bad ("Temperature And Plant Growth: "How Does Temperature Affect Plant Growth"). Colder weather affects plants by negatively impacting photosynthesis, yields, cell division, and transpiration ("Temperature And Plant Growth: How Does Temperature Affect Plant Growth"). All of this data shows that hotter and colder weather does affect plant growth. This data also show's that hotter and colder weather makes factors that are unsuitable for plants.
  • Page 3: Shivam is researching to find evidence that hotter and colder weather does affect plant growth.
  • Page 6: I have also researched the number for what the temperatures plants should be at. High temperature plants should be at 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit at morning, and between 65 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit at night, medium temperature plants should be at 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit in the morning, and 55 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit in the night, and for low temperature plants, they should be at 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit in the morning, and 45 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit at night ("Temperature Requirements of Selected House Plants"). If temperatures go above, or below the required ranges, that can negatively affect the plants in many ways explained in the evidence. There is also data that shows the difference between normal and hot temperature plants for Cumulative Leaf Area in cm's squared, after 80 days. It shows that when at normal temperatures the plant's Cumulative Leaf Area was at 2000 cm's squared at 80 days, while the hot temperature plant's Cumulative Leaf Area was 5000 cm's squared at 80 days ("Temperature extremes: Effect on plant growth and development"). Also for the total collars on the plant, for the hot temperature plant, there were 18 collars, at 80 days and for the normal temperature plant there were 10 collars, at 80 days ("Temperature extremes: Effect on plant growth and development"). These numbers show that hotter and colder weather does affect plant growth.
  • Page 4: Shivam found evidence to prove that plant growth failure may be due to hotter and colder weather.
  • Page 5: Shivam analyzes the data to find patterns among the data.
  • Page 6: Shivam uses numbers to show the ranges for what plant temperatures should be at, and he finds difference between hot and normal temperature plants.
