- Joe and his coworker realized that in window cleaning for this company, they were experiencing many of the "bads" of work that Gheaus and Herzog reference in The Goods Of Work. By working for themselves as window cleaners, Joe and his coworker will be able to choose what work to them is too dangerous and avoid being coerced by a hierarchal figure. Moreover, window cleaning is a repetitive job, one where workers do not have the ability to advance their skill set. By working for themselves, Joe and his coworker now have the ability to seek excellence as they now have to market their own work, get supplies, and face any of the complaints from the clients. The added responsibility allows Joe and his coworker to achieve excellence as by working for themselves they are taking on much greater responsibility, while also eliminating the danger, and hierarchal relationship with their boss.CitationsL.
