- What I don't understand is, if Lady Liberty is supposed to stand for justice, why is she blindfolded?
- Ya how can she see who needs to be punished and who doesn't?

- Woah guys, calm down. Lady Liberty is that way because anyone who commits a crime deserves to be punished. If she let some people go because of their circumstances go how would that be fair?
- I'm not saying your wrong Justin, all I'm saying is sometimes you have to look at the circumstances of the crime to judge the punishment.
- Take this for example: A man is pulled over for speeding down the street. The police officer is going to arrest him even though he didn't hurt anyone and he is trying to get to the hospital to save the life of the person in his passenger seat. How is it fair to arrest this man and risk someone's life in the process?
- Its fair because the man committed a crime. What is the point of making a law if you force some people to follow it and not others?
- You have a point but if all people were punished the same way for a crime that was committed differently, it would not be fair.
- Take the character JVJ from the book we are reading in class. He proved himself to be a good person multiple times, yet he was thought only to be a lowly criminal for stealing bread TO FEED HIS FAMILY. Why should that man be punished for trying to survive in a world that forced him to have to steal!

- Ya, and while JVJ was punished that Thénardier guy got away scotch-free when he lied, stole, and tricked so many people!
