Yes, this is called evaporation. The heat from the sun is causing the particles to spread out even further and have no attraction! Gas particles rarely meet and have a very high kinetic energy.
The puddle is getting smaller!
The puddles gone!
Also remember that a gas has an indefinite volume and shape and moves freely. I'll see you both soon but now I must return to Gaslandia.
Particles in a Gas
The snowman is a solid. The particles are tightly packed and are vibrating in place. No heat is being added to a solid and it cannot flow easily. It also has a definite shape and volume.
Let's recap!!
Once heat is added to a solid a phase change occurs which is melting. Liquids have an indefinite shape and definite volume. The particles are more spread out but still have some attraction and can flow.
When more heat is added to a liquid evaporation occurs. The particles are now very far apart and rarely meet. The particles have the highest kinetic energy so it moves in all directions. A gas has both an indefinite volume and shape.
