In this scene, King Lear was getting his daughters to confess how much they love him. The one who proved their love for him was the most worthy heir of most of his land. Lear's youngest daughter, Cordelia, did not agree with her father's plan.
"O villain, villain! His very opinion in the letter!"(I, II, 75)
Kent was exiled because he got into a fight with King Lear. Kent also disagreed with Lears plan and ended up getting into an argument with him. The king then banished him from him

As Cordelia's father disowned her, she was left with no inheritance from him. Her other suitor, Duke of Burgundy, left her as she came with no dowry. King of France however, stated that Cordelia was the dowry herself. So he left with nothing but Cordelia.
Gloucester's illegitimate son, Edmund, felt it was unfair that Edgar, who was his father's legal son, was treated better only because he was his father's son. He plotted against his father and brother by forging a letter with conspiracy against his father. He then blamed the letter being written by his brother.
Kent, who was previously banished by the king, did not actually leave England. He snuck back into the castle by disguising himself as someone else.
Scene 3: Goneril and Oswald think of ways to get King Lear to leave their house and not bother them anymore. Goneril thinks it is best to be as rude as possible to him.
