- This planet Flammarion is so fascinating. No wonder I was sent here to collect data, this place is fantastic for life of any form. Who knows what could be around here. Well I was sent for 3 tasks, its time to get at it.
- Oh my! I've never seen a rock so big underwater in my life! I have to find the dimensions of this. I'm currently standing 15 miles away looking up at the top at a 64 degree angle. By doing 15(tan(64)) we could find the height of the formation which comes out to be 30.75 miles or 162360 feet tall!
- Whew! Okay, task one complete. two more to go. Had to come back up to the surface to gather my thoughts, man that rock was unbelievable. Well, onto the next.
- Hey! Over There! See that huge mountain. Okay so from my eyes to the top of it, it is 1647 feet away, and we know that from our location to the mountain we are 1332 feet away. So to find the angle I'm looking at the mountain with, I can do the arcsin of (1332/1647), this turns into 53.97 degrees. So fascinating!
- Wow! This has been one heck of a ride! There's only one more task I've been sent to this awesome planet to find, about time I get going before sundown. It comes so quickly on this planet, Days here are not even 8 hours!
- Okay, its the home stretch. All that's left to figure out now its the straight line travel distance to earth (as the crow flies), which can only be calculated because this planet always stays the same distance from earth! So if I'm looking at earth at a 12 degree angle and the distance is 35.8 miles. So now I can use Hyp = 35.8/Cos(12) to find that the distance from my eyes to earth, or the distance to earth as the crow flies is 36.6 miles away.
