- "My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met. How remarkably well you are looking today. But I have received a pipe of what passes for Amontillado, and I have my doubts.”
- "Amontillado! Come, let us go... to your vaults.”
- “It is nothing, let us go on. But first, another draught of the Medoc.”
- "Come, we will go back ere it is too late. Your cough-"
- “He! he! he! — he! he! he! — yes, the Amontillado. But is it not getting late? Will not they be awaiting us at the palazzo, the Lady Fortunato and the rest? Let us be gone.”
- “Yes,...let us be gone.”
- Beginning: Montresor wants to kill Fortunato to get revenge for the "thousand injuries" he had caused, however, to do so he had to trick Fortunato into coming home with him. He did this by using his love for wine against him.
- Middle: Montresor leads Fortunato down the wine vault towards the trap he has created, however, to avoid suspension, he gives Fortunato some wine to intoxicate him along with offers to turn back multiple times.
- End: Once they reach their final destination where the so called Amontillado was, Montresor traps Fortunato and builds a brick wall to trap him, all while he cries for help while in complete shock.
