  • "Tituba, I want you to wake this child." You most certainly do, and you will free her from it now!"(Pg. 58)
  • "I have no power on this child, sir." "No, no, don't hang Tituba! I tell him I don't desire to work for him, sir" (pg. 58)
  • Act l, Reverend Hale questions Tituba on her convicted witchery. He pleads her to wake Betty up for Parris' sake or she will be hung.
  • "I do not judge you. The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you. I never thought you were a good man, John-With a smile-only somewhat bewildered." (pg. 66)
  • Act ll, Elizabeth and John start arguing about him committing adultery with Abigail. He dose not want to bring the topic up again but Elizabeth is hurt by his actions.
  • "No more! I should have roared you down when first you told me your suspicion. But I wilted, and, like a Christian, I confesses. Confessed! Some dream I had must have mistaken you for god that day. But you're not, you're not, and let you not remember it!" (Pg. 66)
  • "There is-Suddenly, from an accusatory attitude, her face turns, looking into the air above-it is truly frightened." "Looking about in the air, clasping her arms about her as though cold: I-I know not. A wind, a cold wind, has come. Her eyes fall on Mary warren." (pg. 101)
  • Act lll, Mary convicts Abigail and the other girls on proctor's orders that they are frauds. She also tries to clear her name that she is not a witch and the girls made the whole thing up.
  • "Abby!" "Lord save me!" (pg. 101)
  • "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How many I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!" (Page 125)
  • Act lV, John proctor refused to turn in the declaration stating that he is a witch and is hanged. He does not want to soil his reputation/name for false accusations.
