Текст на Статията

  • Throughout my middle school years, I never really had many friends. I always sat alone and refused to speak to anyone. As a result, I was left alone, and because I suffer from social anxiety, it was difficult for me to communicate with others.
  • Seeing people hang out all the time made me so upset since no one wanted to talk to me first. Because of this, I was always alone. People usually thought I was strange. I was quite aware that no one wanted to be my friend, so I felt incredibly neglected and alone. I began attending counseling to talk about my feelings, and I was eventually diagnosed with depression.
  • I found that watching people ice skate made me feel a lot better, despite how lonely I felt. I was impressed by their ability to perform tricks and glide on the ice. The thought that you could ice skate alone without having to deal with other people caught my interest and I started taking up the sport.
  • After watching professional ice skaters, I decided that learning to skate would be fun. I got my skates, went home, and watched a bunch of videos and tips so I'd be ready to go ice skating the next day. I was terrified, but seeing people on ice looked like so much fun that I wanted to give it a try.
  • Because I was new, I felt left out after witnessing how well the other ice skaters did, but I didn't want that to stop me from doing something I'd always wanted to do. I was dedicated to learning how to skate and nothing would prevent me from learning. I fell several times, but I got back up and continued skating. I was happy gliding on the ice, and I had forgotten how lonely I was most of the time.
  • After I gained confidence on ice and was able to do tricks, I had never felt more happy. Ice skating was an excellent way to relieve stress associated with, not only, regular life, but also with having a mental illness. Ice skating allowed me to forget about my troubles and helped me with the confidence boost I have been looking for my whole life.
