- Hi kids. Today we will be going to four different places to learn about gravity. Gravity has four parts creep, mudslides, slump, and landslides.
- Creep is very slow downhill movementof rock and soil. It usually happens from freezing and thawing of water in cracked layers of rock beneath the soil.
- It ranges from half a centimeter to as much as 10 cm per year.
- Mudslides occur when a mixture of water, rock, and soil rapidly move downhill. Occur in dry areas after a heavy rain. It can move up to 35 MPH
- How much destruction can it cause?
- Slump is a mass of rocks and soil suddenly slip down a slope. Unlike a landslide, a slump moves down in one large mass.
- Even though creep happens very slowly, it can move large amounts of material over a long period of time.
- Landslides occur when rock and soil slide quickly down a steep slope. It's the most destructive.
- Gravity erosion can be very dangerous and it can cause a lot of damage. Some ways to prevent it is to plant crops and build retaining walls. Also you can put down more mulch and rocks.
