- Exposition
- By then it was dark enough to sneak in over the back fence of the Nightly Double drive-in movie. (Hinton, 20)
- Conflict
- 'I killed him,' he said slowly. 'I killed that boy.' (Hinton, 56)
- Rising Action #1
- 'Oh, glory!' he whispered. The church was on fire! (Hionton, 90)
- The boys went to watch the movie and they met two girls called Cherry and Marcia. After the movie they got jumped by the Socs.
- Rising Action #2
- The rumble was set for seven, so I was late for supper, as usual. (Hinton, 131)
- The Socs found Ponyboy and Johnny. Bob, the Soc, wants to beat them up. Bob put Ponyboy in the water, and at that time Johnny killed Bob to protect Ponyboy. Now Ponyboy and Johnny went to Dally's house and asked for help.
- Climax
- 'Easy, buddy, easy,' I heard him say softly, 'there's nothing we can do now.' (Hinton, 154)
- Dally told Johnny and Ponyboy to go to Jay Mountain. They stayed there for a few days. Then Dally came to visit them and they went back to the church with fire. They saved the kids, but they injured themself and went to the hospital.
- Rising Action / Resolution
- Remembering a handsome, dark minute...And I decided I could tell people, beginning with my English teacher. (Hinton, 179-180)
- While Johnny was in the hospital, the greasers were talking about how to win the fight with the Socs. Then after the fight greasers stayed and the Socs ran, so the greasers won the fight. After that, they went to the hospital to tell Johnny the good news, but he died.
- Dally couldn't take the fact that Johnny died, so he robbed a store. Then the police found him and killed him. Dally didn't die a hero.
- After dally was killed the gang was fine but it would never be the same, so many things happened that they will never forget, but Ponyboy is writing a story for one of his classes and its about, The Greasers.
