- Sterling is a dolphin that lives in the ocean. He needs to go up and breathe. Sterling is looking diagonally and is 11 meters away from the top. Across from him, there is a huge coral reef that is 9 meters away. Sterling is going to use the Pythagorean theorem to see how high up sea level is. He figures out he is 14.2 meters away from the top and swims up to take a breath.
- Sterling swims back down then realizes he is hungry. He sees a piece of kelp and sees some fish swimming above it and wants to get them. The fish are 5 feet high and his angle to the fish is 33. He is going to use trig to find how far away he is. 5/tan33=8ft he figures out he is only 8 feet away from the fish.
- Sterling swims to get the fish then eats enough to realize he is tired.
- Sterling has to swim back to his sleeping spot he realizes he is at an angle of 23 then swims up 12ft. He. reaches his destination. It was about 31 feet away.
- Once Sterling wakes up he is hungry again he goes back to the kelp. He is at an angle of 24 and diagonally the kelp is 12 meters away. Once he does the math he. realizes he is 11 meters away from the kelp.
