Текст на Статията

  • "The Golden days of late October fade, As bleak November's iron skies descend" The seasons are changing! You can see it in the skies, as it starts getting dark outside earlier. "When tresses, like the leaden clouds have grayed, We see our fruitful time's approaching end."
  • Yeah! Like when the poet says,"When tresses, like the leaden clouds have grayed, We see our fruitful time's approaching end." I think what she means by that is that is getting colder out, and while October can be beautiful with all its fall colors, November has a certain beauty to it as well.
  • I know what you mean! She uses great imagery throughout the whole sonnet! Like when she says, "The sunlight that besieged us with its heat, Now leans against the south walls, cold and tired." I totally get what she is saying! As the seasons transition you feel the difference in the weather and you can see it in the skies!
  • Exactly! She is upset about winter coming, but accepts that time goes on, whether we want it to or not.
  • The turn in the poem in Line 7. It changes from discussing how bleak winter can be, and is now talking about how nothing can escape the hold time has on it.
  • Yeah! The things you can't do during summer!
  • Or when she says, "Despite the wistful longing we might feel, All times of summer fade, as fade they must." It reminds me of being sad about summer being in the past, but also being excited for things like Thanksgiving and bonfires!
  • I agree! It's a good reminder to cherish the present, when you may not know what the future holds. Rain or shine.
  • I even like the next line even more! "Embrace what time remains; it will not last. Your autumn, too, will soon be ancient past." I think that can apply to so much more than the changing of seasons.
