Текст на Статията

  • Let's start from the 5 contributors of the cell theory.
  • Today we will discuss about the Cell Theory.
  • First, we have ROBERT HOOKE, he is an English scientist. He is the first one who used the term "cells" in 1665 to describe the small chambers within cork that he observed under a microscope of his own design.
  • In 1838, a German botanist named MATTHIAS SCHLEIDEN, made an extensive microscopic observations of plant tissues, and described them as being composed of cells.
  • Can anybody in the class tell me the third person who contributed in the Cell Theory?
  • Okay Eli.
  • THEODOR SCHWANN, a noted German physiologist made a similar microscopic observations of animal tissue.
  • In 1839, after a conversation with Schleiden, Schwann realized that similarities existed between plant and animal tissues.
  • In 1852, ROBERT REMAK, who is a prominent neurologist and embryologist, published convincing evidence that cells are derived from other cells as a result of cell division. However, this idea was questioned by many in the scientific community.
  • That's right. Let's move on to the next one.
  • And finally we have RUDOLF VIRCHOW, a well-respected pathologist, published an editorial essay entitled “Cellular Pathology,” which popularized the concept of cell theory using the Latin phrase omnis cellula a cellula (“all cells arise from cells”), which is essentially the second tenet of modern cell theory.
  • I hope you learned something today. Tomorrow we will have a quiz regarding this topic. Class dismissed.
